At Cottonwood Music Emporium, we have a soft spot for the "mad scientists" of the pedal world—the builders who don’t just recreate the past, but push the boundaries of what a guitar, bass, or synth can sound like. That’s why we are thrilled to feature the lineup from Baltimore Sonic Research Institute (BSRI Audio).
Founded by Dave Gill, BSRI was born out of a specific need for "massive, crushing fuzz" during a studio session. Since then, it has evolved into a powerhouse of boutique design, blending vintage-inspired character with modern versatility and a healthy dose of sonic chaos.
The Impossible Colors is the ultimate dirt machine for players who hate the limitations of traditional fuzz. Most fuzz pedals are picky about where they sit in your signal chain, but thanks to a transformer-coupled input stage, this pedal is completely agnostic to placement. You can put it after your favorite buffer or at the very end of your chain, and it will still react like it’s plugged directly into your guitar.
With a name inspired by Ray Bradbury, this pedal is as poetic as it is powerful. Soft Rains is not your standard "set it and forget it" reverb. It’s a big, washy, textural machine designed to fill the spaces between your notes with life and movement.
Chorus pedals often get a bad rap for being "cheesy," but the Ocean Floor is here to change that narrative. This is a deep, immersive modulation pedal that captures the murky, swirling depths of the sea.
Every BSRI pedal feels like it has a story to tell. Dave Gill’s approach is rooted in the "experiment"—finding the interactive sweet spots between controls that other manufacturers might overlook. Whether you’re looking for a fuzz that breaks the rules or a reverb that breathes with your playing, BSRI Audio delivers.
