The Ultimate "Nashville" Overdrive Experience

Inspired by the legendary “Nashville” overdrives found on the pedalboards of session greats like Tim Pierce and Jerry McPherson, the Browne Amplification ALKENE takes that familiar, organic feel and elevates it. At its core, the ALKENE combines highly musical clipping with gentle, amp-like compression, offering unmatched flexibility and tonal control for the modern guitarist.

Refined Tone for the Working Musician

We’ve carefully tailored the ALKENE circuit to ensure every dial tweak is incredibly touch-responsive and stage-ready:

  • Optimized Gain Range: The overall gain range has been lowered to make every part of the dial's sweep usable.
  • Restored Mid-Frequencies: Key mids are retained so your tone stays present and cuts through the mix without sounding overly scooped.
  • Tightened Low End: Delivers clarity, punch, and the perfect amount of low-mid "beef" without ever getting muddy.

The result is a versatile overdrive that excels at both crunchy rhythm tones that retain distinct chord clarity, and singing, expressive lead tones when pushed.

Breathe Life Into Stiff Amps

Every gigging musician knows the frustration of backline amps that sound thin, stiff, or uninspiring. The ALKENE acts as your secret weapon to transform lackluster amps, adding essential low-mids and just enough sag to make them feel alive and enjoyable to play.

Pro-Tip: Turn the Level up to 2 O’clock, fade in your desired amount of Gain, and set the Tone to taste. You’ll instantly notice a fuller-sounding amp with subtle compression that helps notes jump right off the fretboard.

Versatile Clipping & Tone Options

The ALKENE expands on classic overdrive circuits by featuring two internal switches and one external clipping switch. This gives you meaningful, highly usable tonal options without overcomplicating your pedalboard:

  • Asymmetrical Clipping (External Switch): Toggle between traditional stock symmetrical soft clipping (Right) and asymmetrical soft clipping (Left). Asymmetrical mode allows the pedal to open up and bloom, delivering more punch, a wider feel, and slightly less compression—perfect for players seeking a dynamic, amp-like response.
  • More Clip (Internal Top Switch): Engage an alternate set of hard clipping diodes (Right) to add extra bite, aggression, and gain to your signal. (Note: Because this mode slightly reduces output volume, you will want to push the Level control higher. We highly recommend pairing this with Asymmetrical Clipping as a starting point!)
  • Low Cut (Internal Bottom Switch): Tailor your bass response to fit your specific rig. If your setup already has plenty of low end, engaging the Low Cut (Left) tightens things up beautifully without thinning out your core tone.
