ABOUT THE PINK TACO V2

This is the second iteration of Dave Friedman's "baby BE-100." It is designed to be a fire-breathing, modified Marshall-style amp in a portable, 20-watt lunchbox format.

Key Distinction (V1 vs. V2): The original Pink Taco was a simple, plug-and-play high-gain monster. The V2 (your model) added significant versatility features that players had requested for years, specifically the System Switches on the front panel.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Power: 20 Watts
  • Tubes: Power Section: 2 x EL84 (Cathode Biased – no need to bias when swapping matched tubes), Preamp: 3 x 12AX7
  • Channels: Single Channel (but highly flexible due to the new switches)
  • Loop: Ultra-transparent Series FX Loop (Dave Friedman is famous for these; they handle time-based effects perfectly without sucking tone).

The "V2" Exclusive Features

  • Your amp has three specific toggle switches that distinguish it from the older V1. These allow you to reshape the gain structure to fit different guitars and volumes:
  • S-Switch (Gain Structure):
  • This 3-way switch adjusts the overall gain character.
  • Lower settings: Cleaner, more "Plexi-ish" crunch.
  • Higher settings: The famous high-gain Friedman "Brown Eye" (BE) sound.
  • Sat (Saturation) Switch: Adds compression and saturation. When engaged, it typically drops the volume slightly (normal behavior) but makes the amp feel "chewier" and easier to play for legato/shred styles.
  • Fat Switch: Thickens up the bottom end. This is incredibly useful if you are playing a Stratocaster or Telecaster (single coils) and want them to sound huge, or if you are playing at low bedroom volumes and want to retain fullness.

Summary

It is a "Mini BE-100": It is designed to sound like Friedman's flagship 100-watt head but at a volume that won't get you evicted (though it is still very loud).

EL84 Magic: Unlike many EL84 amps that sound "chimey" (like a Vox), Dave Friedman designs the power section to sound tight and punchy, mimicking the big EL34 tubes found in 4x12 stacks.

Hand-Wired/PCB Hybrid: Built in the USA (Los Angeles, CA) using the same custom transformers and capacitors as their top-tier amps.
