A simple musical accessory that boosts the upper midrange of a guitar signal to make solos and lead lines stand out above chord/rhythm work. It also creates a mild overdrive when pushed fully which will work well with any classic valve guitar amp designs that have no channel switching or preamp drive, as well as newer designs and solid-state amps alike. Uses a special design analogue Class A discrete transistor circuit for the ultimate in sound quality and transparency of tone, which is switched out with True (Hardwire) bypass.
This pedal may be set subtly (clean) and progressively boost (semi-clean) and can be used to push a bigger level into the input of a valve amp, thereby adding a subtle distortion and tonal fatness. Also, the “PEAK” control gives a progressively variable bandwidth content, ranging from just perceptible (broad across most frequencies) to a blatant centring around ~2kHz, with a gradual action. Please note: the “PEAK” control affects both bandwidth and gain, one at the expense of the other)
In Use:
To use your TB, first either fit a fresh battery or connect a suitable power supply (see ''Powering the Pedal") and plug your guitar into the “In/On” socket (right hand, power jack side), which will simultaneously power up any battery you fit inside the pedal. Connect the “Out” socket (left hand LED side) to your amplifier, or
next pedal, keeping the volume low on the amp at first (and again, before you disconnect later!).
Keep the output “LEVEL” turned down low at first to avoid any loud surprises! In bypass mode, will appear the normal sound of your guitar. In effect mode (LED “on” - should be moderately bright), with the “PEAK” control at minimum and the “LEVEL” control fully clockwise, there should be a clean sound, at a similar level compared with the bypass signal. Advance the “PEAK” control and the gain should increase gradually and the bandwidth gradually narrow - you may wish to reduce the “LEVEL” setting proportionally. This should create an "overdriven valve amp" effect with decent sustain and bite at the highest settings, which you can adjust to taste with your guitar's volume and tone controls and pickup selector.
